WW2 Rare USMC KIT, JUNGLE, MEDICAL, INDIVIDUAL. This is this very FIRST model, the precursor to JUNGLE 1st AID KIT M2!! These THIN FABRIC ROLLS rarely survived and turn up even more RARELY.
This is the ROLL-UP model made of Shade OD#3 Poplin (of the same weight fabric used for the Field Jacket) that was secured by two TAPE TIES. The interior consists of 17 open POCKETS (with BELLOW-BOTTOMS) of varying widths to accommodate assorted bandages, compresses, vials, bottles, repellent, and other items. As items were exhausted it could be refilled by the Marine or Soldier with replacement supplies of his choice. This fabric ROLL is a must for an EARLY PACIFIC THEATER collection. The POCKETS are neither named nor numbered.
This example has ZERO holes, tears, frays! The STAINING is primarily EXTERNAL and is NOT the result of leaking Iodine, Insect Repellent, or Boric Petroleum Salve (as often the case with 80 year-old First Aid Kits).
There is ZERO deterioration, dry rot, or damage to the Poplin fabric from the stains! Only the 7 BAY COMPANY One Inch READI-BANDAGES, the 1/2 ounce graduated DURAGLAS Bottle made by OWENS-ILLINOIS, the BAKELITE Vial with Screw-Top, and the opened WOODEN VIAL containing the IODINE APPLICATOR are original to this INDIVIDUAL MEDICAL JUNGLE KIT. The WIRE SPLINT, the 3 LARGE GAUZE COMPRESSES (24 x 72), the 4 GAUZE PADS (3 x 3), the 4 BANDAGE COMPRESSES (2), and the OD LIP STICK, SUNBURN PREVENTIVE - HOT CLIMATE are all LATE additions!
